Our Batizado Event will take place on Friday 11th, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of September.

Fees:
- Capoeira Mandinga Students: RMB1,000 (900 if paid within the 31st of August)
- Visitors capoeiristas: RMB500 (400 only the weekend)
Please invite your friends to come to see our batizado on Saturday 12th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Stargym in Wuyi Lu. It will be free of charge.
Once again, this is going to be bigger than last year: more guests, more students, more Axé!
New venue from September

Starting from September 1st 2009 our classes will take place in Wuyi Lu n.777 (map), inside Stargym, 2F. To arrive to the room you should use the stairs (not the elevator).
There is a shortcut from Zhongshan Park Subway station- Changning Lu, it’s about 10 minutes walking.

Capoeira Mandinga Shanghai’s second annual Batizado and Troca de Corda will take place on Saturday, September 12th. Following our massive success and vibrant performances at 2008’s inaugural Batizado at Lakeville Regency, Capoeira Mandinga Shanghai will be holding another visual and fun-filled event for 2009’s 2nd Annual Batizado and Troca de Corda.

I have been practicing capoeira for over 10 years now, since I was 11-years-old. I remember picturing myself doing everything that these people were doing with their bodies during an assembly demonstration at my elementary school and signed up for the program right away. I began training capoeira as an after school activity and fell in love with the art. I was quiet and shy growing up; capoeira has given me self-confidence and helped me overcome so many obstacles.
Everyone has a different story and journey in life. I have come to realize that my place on earth is to help others not only to teach others, but to also learn from anyone and everyone. To have a positive outlook and to dream big is my personal philosophy in life and this is only the beginning of what capoeira has offered me so far. All it takes is imaging your self doing something and that first step can make a huge difference. I cannot imagine where I would be if I did not sign up for this after school program to take capoeira. I believe this is faith and my calling in life to continue benefiting and growing from this beautiful art.
Important information about our classes

This Thursday there will be our last class in the gym in Zhongshan Park! We’ll do our last roda there. I would like to see everyone there for a last tribute to our beloved gym. After we might go to the Xinjiang restaurant and order the whole lamb…
This Saturday 1st of August at 5:00pm class will be in a gym near Zhongshan Park.
Address is: n.299 Xuanhua Lu (near Dingxi Lu), Bld. 4. (una tantum: it’s only for this Saturday).
Starting from Monday 3rd of August classes will take place in the gym in Kangding Lu (address and map is here).
The only difference with the old schedule will be Wednesday (we’ll start at 8:00pm instead of 8:15pm) and Saturday (we’ll start 4:30pm instead of 5:00pm).

We’re still looking for a venue starting from September so please keep your eyes opened!

Just to clarify that we will keep the same schedule in the new gym:
Intermediate classes on Monday and Wednesday 8:00pm-9:45pm and beginner classes on Tuesday and Thursday 8:00pm-9:45pm. Open class every Saturday from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.
We will start using the new space next Monday 3rd of August.
This Saturday 1st of August at 5:00pm class will be in a gym near Zhongshan Park.

Moving to Kangding Lu

Dear all,
After 18 months of great capoeira classes, in the cold and in the hot, our Gym in Zhongshan Park will close for ever next Friday 31st of July. It will be demolished for the Expo2010.
We have found a temporary place for our classes during the month of August!
It’s an amazing room in 1147 Kangding Rd., by Wuning Rd. (15minutes walking from Jing’An Temple)
We will keep our usual schedule. I’ll let you know further details soon.

THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY SOLUTION FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST: WE SHOULD KEEP LOOKING FOR A GYM/VENUE TO BE USED FOR THE FOLLOWING YEARS!
The best way to help is to call or to personally go to see the gym you have found. If there’s availability and you think that the place is ok, let us know ASAP.

It was an absolute pleasure to attend this workshop with CM Espeto and his awesome students Cocada and Cobra. I had a lot of fun, but most importantly I learned a lot from Espeto, both in terms of movements and the way to approach learning difficult or new ones. I am officially a fan of Forca de Arte and will make it a point to visit them some time next year and train with them some more. Thank you so much CM Espeto for coming over and imparting your knowledge, but also for the amazing attitude, patience and energy you brought! Thank you Cocada and Cobra for coming over and playing your beautiful games with us!
Diego, thanks a lot for bringing CM Espeto, organizing the event and in general for making all these wonderful experiences happen for us. You’re a genuine role model to us all.
